P100 Convertible Info

We have here a 3.0 v6 Ford Cortina P100 convertable pickup! A fully customised P100 guaranteed to put a smile on everyones face!

Where shall i start. . . . . . Firstly it has a 3.0 v6 the same as that fitted to a 3.0 capri with a very rare 5 speed conversion and along with the engine a power steering conversion, nice! The motor is standard with good oil pressure and has no knocks or rattles and neither does it overheat due to a triple cored radiator fitted which is cooled by twin electric fans. The exhaust is a twin system ie, two lengths of pipe with a silencer in each which exit a couple of inches either side of the tow bar and let me assure you these sound VERY good indeed!

Secondly. . . . extensive body modifications the main thing being a removeable roof great for those sun out moments! Yes you heard correct the roof can in fact be removed and stored in the back which, i hasten to add, has been fully wood lined professionally and varnished to keep the elements out. A full length black canvas cover has been made to cover the pickup section when not in use. the rear wheel arches/rear quarter panels have been flared akin to that of a mk3 capri x pack just not quite as wide. The front arches have also been widened (by use of a mk3 escort arch) to help accommodate the 14" mag wheels fitted with (recently replaced) heavy duty commercial tyres. The bonnet has had a mk3 capri power bulge grafted into it to help fit the 3.0 v6 under the hood. The headlights are the quad lights of a mk3 capri and below these a front spoiler has been faired into the front valance and arches. Back to the convertable conversion the chassis has been reinforced in all the correct places to bring any missing strength back into the pickup although i hasten to add the cab section of the pickup isn't as structural as a normal car so rest assured that the vehicle is a strong as a standard pickup. After all this was done the pickup was sprayed Rosso Red. It's also got a towbar!

The interior is from a mk5 cortina ghia which includes door cards, seats, carpet, dash facia, steering wheel, wooden door cappings and centre console. The handbrake is dash mounted due to the vehicle originally being fitted with a bench seat. The interior is a brown cloth which is in good condition. The door window frames have been removed and the windows have been fitted with an electric kit and also the car is fitted with central locking.

The engine has been replaced recently with a used unit supplied by Tickover Capri Spares due to a number of faults with the original engine which involved a big end going, then subsequent repair, then unfortunately that engine then caught fire neccesitating the bonnet to be resprayed but due to the problems with that engine we then purchased the guaranteed (2 months remaining) unit from Tickover. All signs of fire damage from the exterior have been remedied the only thing left is for the underside of the bonnet to be painted with hamerite or similar to smarten the engine bay up. Any other components in the engine bay (eg heaterbox) were also replaced after the small fire so now that everything is looking and working as it should be. Whilst the engine was out we replaced the clutch assembly seeing as we had the motor out.

There is a few other problems which are the exhausts, they've seen better days! the system is a bit rusty so it may be a problem on the mot but it's nothing half hour with a mig welder can't fix or better still use the oppotunity to put some free-er flowing silencers in to create even more noise! the electric windows are a bit slow but other than that they work fine. Due to the amount of roof choppage thats has been going on various seals have been adapted to seal the cabin but you do get a couple of leaks around the windows. Find me a convertable like this that doesn't though. Yesterday someone stupid f#!&ker reversed into the n/s spotlight and smashed it so that'll need fixing but i have some Ford spots that can go with the pickup if wanted.

The only spares i have for this are some new genuine Ford front discs and pads which were a job to find and cost nearly £170 but these go free with the pickup and some spare rear light lenses.

All in all though the pick up is in good condition with shiny new looking paint with very few marks on the exterior. You can get in and drive this as far as you want and it'll get you there no problems at all plus you could do that with the contents of your house in the back seeing as it's a pickup!

To drive this thing you'd think you were royalty because the response, looks and reception this unique pickup gets are quite simply staggering!
